Project 333 for Men: A 33-Item List That Works
Project 333 for men works the same as it does for anyone: wear 33 items or fewer for three months, counting shoes, jackets and accessories, but not underwear, socks, sleepwear or gym-only clothes. For most guys that ends up around 13 tops and bottoms, 4 layers, 5 pairs of shoes and a handful of accessories. Below is a complete list you can copy, plus swaps for school and work.

Project 333 for guys in brief
Project 333 is a minimalist wardrobe challenge created by Courtney Carver of Be More With Less. The rules in short:
- 33 items of clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry and outerwear
- 3 months at a time
- Not counted: underwear, socks, sleepwear, in-home loungewear, workout clothes worn only for workouts, and sentimental jewelry you never take off
- Box up the rest and put it out of sight
For the full breakdown, see our guide to Project 333 rules. If you're wondering where socks and boxers land, the short answer is they don't count, and we cover every edge case in does Project 333 include underwear?.
Many guys find the challenge easier than they expect. A lot of men already rotate a small set of clothes. The challenge just makes it official.

Swaps for school or work
The list above is a starting point. Here's how to adapt it.
Project 333 for teen guys and students
- Swap the polo and oxford for a second hoodie and a graphic tee
- Swap the dress trousers for a second pair of joggers or cargo pants
- Swap dress shoes for a second pair of sneakers
- Swap the watch and scarf for a second cap and a crossbody bag
- Gym and PE kit doesn't count if it's only worn for sports
If your school has a uniform, many students treat it like workout gear and use Project 333 for everything outside school.
For an office or dressy job
- Swap the hoodie and quarter-zip for a blazer and a second button-down
- Swap one tee for a fine-knit sweater
- Swap slides for a second pair of dress shoes
- Swap the cap for a tie (if you need one)
For hot weather
- Swap the coat and sweater for linen shirts
- Two pairs of shorts instead of one
- Keep the rain shell, drop the beanie
Outfits you can make
The magic of a minimalist wardrobe for men is how many outfits a few pieces make. Here are 10 combos from the list:
- White tee + dark jeans + white sneakers + cap
- Oxford + khaki chinos + loafers + brown belt
- Henley + black jeans + boots
- Flannel open over gray tee + dark jeans + running sneakers
- Crew-neck sweater over oxford + navy chinos + boots
- Hoodie + joggers + running sneakers + beanie
- Polo + khaki chinos + white sneakers + sunglasses
- Navy tee + chore jacket + black jeans + boots
- Quarter-zip + dark jeans + white sneakers
- Black tee + bomber + black jeans + white sneakers
That's 10 without trying hard. Most guys could get 30 or more from this list.
The honest problem
Here's what nobody tells you: after a few weeks, you won't remember which outfits you actually wore, or which of your 33 you skipped entirely. That's the info you need most when the three months end.
Most guys can't recall what they wore last Thursday, never mind across three months. WORN is planned to handle it: one photo a day of what you actually wore, one tap, no tagging. After a month it reads back the few pieces you really wear, the ones you never touch, and suggests tomorrow's outfit from what you already own. Start my outfit diary
Three months later
When your three months are up, run a quick review before you open the box.
Ask yourself
- Which items did I wear nearly every week?
- Which barely left the closet?
- What did I miss from the box? Name it.
- Did anything wear out? That's a sign it earned its spot.
Then decide
- Keep your top performers for the next round
- Swap out pieces you didn't wear for ones you missed
- Let go of boxed items you didn't miss at all
Want a smaller test first? The 10x10 wardrobe challenge works for guys too, with just 10 pieces over 10 days.

FAQ
Does Project 333 work for men?
Yes. The rules are the same for everyone, and many men find it easier because they already rotate a small set of clothes. The main adjustment is remembering that shoes and accessories count.
What's on a men's Project 333 wardrobe list?
A typical list has around 11 tops, 5 bottoms, 4 jackets, 5 pairs of shoes and 8 accessories. Neutral colors make almost everything work together. Underwear, socks and gym-only clothes don't count.
Do socks count in Project 333 for men?
Most people treat socks like underwear, so they don't count. Dress socks and athletic socks both stay outside your 33. Shoes, though, always count.
Is a 333 capsule wardrobe for men good for teens?
It works well for teen guys and students. Swap dressy items for extra hoodies, joggers and sneakers, and leave gym kit out of the count. It also helps with growing, since you're focusing on pieces that fit right now.
How many shoes should be in a men's capsule wardrobe?
Four to six pairs covers most lives: two sneakers, boots, one dressy pair and sandals. In Project 333, all of them count toward the 33, so fewer pairs leaves more room for clothes.
